It is important to ensure the safe transport of heavy cargo

Air Partner has recently arranged another Antonov 124 aircraft to fly heavy critical power generating equipment from Leipzig to a thermal power station in Tokyo. We also arranged the special build-up of wooden base frames and lifting points for the generators, some field visits to the factory were also completed so that the loadmaster of the aircraft could inspect the cargo pieces personally prior to loading. The heavy cargo was trucked from Switzerland to Leipzig airport, and the whole aircraft loading process took only two hours to complete.

This flight is one of numerous flights that Air Partner operated in or out of Japan following the earthquake. As well as numerous repatriation passenger flights bringing foreign nationals out of Japan back to Europe or the U.S., also numerous aid flights were also performed from the return direction. Air Partner work with European Freight Forwarding agents

A leading European freight forwarding agent was recently faced with a time critical shipment to move a complete aircraft engine, plus spares, from Northern Europe to a stranded aircraft at a popular holiday resort in Greece. With a rapidly approaching deadline, the forwarder contacted the Air Partner Time Critical team of specialists for support and assistance.

The Air Partner Time Critical team, used to dealing with AOG and more specifically aero engine movements by air and road, assessed the enquiry and determined that a cargo aircraft charter was the only solution to meet the time critical deadline. Several air charter solutions were provided within 20 minutes of the initial enquiry and within an hour the forwarder made the decision to proceed with the flight.

Our team liaised with civil aviation authorities to ensure all necessary traffic rights were approved, slots granted and aircraft handling confirmed. The flight operated as planned and our client was kept fully updated via Air Partner Time Critical’s unique RED-Track system until the engine was successfully delivered to the airline on time.

Briffa, who is marking 15 years with the company this year and has over 20 years’ experience arranging charter flights, cites his own ‘highlights’.  These include Air Partner’s move into freight charters, fuel reselling and emergency evacuation planning plus and the winning in 2004, and subsequent retention last December, of the Royal Warrant.

A further milestone was the creation of Air Partner’s pre-paid JetCard programme for clients chartering private jets on a regular basis.  The Air Partner JetCard is the most flexible and transparent in the industry and additional enhancements are underway to make it even more attractive alongside ad hoc charter rates.  Briffa comments that “The business aviation market has never seen such a wide variety of executive jets available for charter (Air Partner has six categories on its Jet Card).  The range is healthy and diverse and there is good news that after two years in the doldrums, the private jet market is steadily moving again.”

Pleasing for Briffa, who was promoted to CEO in March 2010 from Chief Operations Officer, is the company’s steadily improved profitability following the company’s decision to focus on its core charter broking activity.  Since his appointment, the company’s profitability has been improving and annual results will be announced in October. At the half year stage to 31 January 2011 Group sales were up 36 per cent year-on-year to £130.9 million.

Coinciding with its 50^th birthday, Air Partner is moving its UK headquarters to larger premises at City Place alongside London Gatwick Airport next month (July).  The building is opposite The Beehive, Gatwick’s original terminal building, where the company began trading 50 years ago and has remained within 1km ever since.
